Conclusion
Not only in Germany, the seemingly high costs afflicted with rapid prototyping have reserved this method so far for rare and very special cases, under the aspect of cost containment. With health insurances, a model for surgery planning is still a case-to-case decision. As a consequence, this promising and feasible technology is only available in a few institutions rather than being clinical standard.
We expect, that, along with the increase of volume data based diagnostics and the development of new concepts in Computer Assisted Surgery, this will change in the future.
