Workflow in Model Production
 |
Schematic workflow |
The general process is as follows:
- CT:
Acquisition of volume CT data (spiral CT; double detector system)
- Transfer to the workstation (via Local Area Network or disk)
- Workstation:
Quick 3D surface rendering (to get an overview of the anatomical
context)
- Workstation:
Definition of modeling volume by defining contours slice by slice
- Workstation:
Choosing interpolation parameters (depending on type of model)
- Workstation:
Conversion to the appropriate file format (depending on type of
model)
- Transfer to the modeling system (disk)
- Modeling system:
Production of model

CT Volume Data Aquisition - Why?
Computerized tomography currently is the only distortion-free method for volume data
acquisition.
In the future, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) might gain importance, but
there are still problems, such as the signal-to-noise ratio.
